Pole Term and Gauge Invariance in Deep Inelastic Scattering

چکیده

In this paper we reconcile two contradictory statements about deep inelastic scattering (DIS) in manifestly covariant theories: (i) the scattering must be gauge invariant, even in the deep inelastic limit, and (ii) the pole term (which is not gauge invariant in a covariant theory) dominates the scattering amplitude in the deep inelastic limit. An “intermediate” answer is found to be true. We show that, at all energies, the gauge dependent part of the pole term cancels the gauge dependent part of the rescattering term, so that both the pole and rescattering terms can be separately redefined in a gauge invariant fashion. The resulting, redefined pole term is then shown to dominate the scattering in the deep inelastic limit. Details are worked out for a simple example in 1+1 dimensions. 25.30.Fj, 24.85.+p, 13.60.Hb, 03.65.Ge, 11.10.Kk Typeset using REVTEX 1

Elastic Meson Production – Factorisation and Gauge Invariance *

The factorisation of the hard amplitude for exclusive meson production in deep inelastic scattering is considered in the framework of a simple model. It is demonstrated explicitly how gauge invariance ensures the cancellation of non-factorising contributions.

2 v 2 1 0 Se p 20 04 Twist - 3 Single Spin Asymmetries in Semi - Inclusive Deep - Inelastic Scattering

The single spin asymmetries for a longitudinally polarized lepton beam or a longitudinally polarized nucleon target in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering are twist-3 observables. We study these asymmetries in a simple diquark spectator model of the nucleon. Analogous to the case of transverse target polarization, non-vanishing asymmetries are generated by gluon exchange between the struck...

On the Structure of the Virtual Compton Amplitude in the Generalized Bjorken Region: Integral Relations

A systematic study is performed of the structure of the twist–2 contributions to the virtual Compton amplitude in deep–inelastic non–forward scattering for general spin states in the non–local light cone expansion. The gauge invariance is proven in this approach for the twist–2 contributions for non–forward scattering. Relations are derived between the contributing non–forward amplitudes.

Gauge-invariance in hadronic scattering processes

High energy hadronic scattering processes can be described in terms of partonic scattering processes and parton distribution and fragmentation functions. These are bilocal matrix elements of quark operators. Colour gauge-invariance requires inclusion of a gauge link, which is characterized by its path. For transverse momentum dependent distribution and fragmentation functions, appearing in sing...

Master Formula for Twist-3 Soft-Gluon-Pole Mechanism to Single Transverse-Spin Asymmetry

Perturbative QCD relates the single transverse-spin asymmetries (SSAs) for hard processes at large transverse-momentum of produced particle to partonic matrix elements that describe interference between scattering from a coherent quark-gluon pair and from a single quark, generated through twist-3 quark-gluon correlations inside a hadron. When the coherent gluon is soft at the gluonic poles, its...
